This is "Reunited", their first and only #1 hit, and a love song that still holds up to this day as being one of the... schmaltziest of all time.
That's okay, though. I can take a little schmaltz with my morning breakfast, and at least it really does sound like the two are in love. It's sappy, yeah, but it doesn't sound put-on. It really does sound like that for them, it feels so good.
The song has a structure of one verse by Peaches, one by Herb, and then a chorus where they both perform together, or "reunited", if you will. It's pretty predictable, but it works. That's art of the problem: everything works, but it amounts to a very safe song, not really taking any risks. It just stays the same tempo throughout and sticks to its structure of lyrics. The verses represent their longing to get back together, and then the chorus represents them actually getting back together.
While you could slow dance to this, I guess, I honestly don't see much more of a use for this song. It's not a bad song, but it is kind of predictable, and as a result it's not very exciting. I almost wish there was a little more ridiculousness in this and that they went all out with their vocals.
But the entire song plays it safe, and instead of it feeling good for me, it just feels... okay. It doesn't help that the song is almost six minutes long. If you're going to take up that much of someone's time with a song, then make it exciting. Don't make it "Reunited".
