Top Ten Tuesday - Billboard Hot 100 Review: March 7, 2020

A fair bit of action on the Hot 100 this week, most notably album bombs from BTS (!) and NBA YoungBoy. Not much of it affected the Top 10, except for BTS' monstrous debut with "ON" reaching number 4, their highest debut and charting hit on the Hot 100 to date! However, much of the Top 10 remained the same, especially the Top 3 which has been stagnant for three weeks now. I like "The Box", but it's no "Old Town Road". Might be time for some fresh blood.

Speaking of which, the activity in the Top 10 seems to be concentrated toward the bottom half, where "Blinding Lights" continues to surge up to #8. I'm really hoping for this song to make the surge to #1, but I'll settle for a Top 5 hit. In any case, it's making a serious run for that year-end list. This knocks mainstays on the Top 10 "Memories" and "Someone You Loved" down to 9 and 10 respectively, hopefully falling out of the Top 10 next week, two songs that have stuck around for FAR too long.

Only other note of interest is "Dance Monkey"'s collapse to #7, which I found surprising. I honestly thought the song had more momentum going for it, but it appears to be floundering a lot sooner than expected, which is a bit of a shame as it grew on me.

Predictions:

"Blinding Lights" will continue its surge, especially after "ON" falls out. I'm looking at a Top 5 hit next week. Looking further down the charts, Doja Cat's "Say So" has been gaining insane momentum off of streaming. It could very well break the Top 10 soon if it keeps that up. I expect, and hope, "Memories" and "Someone You Loved" to fall out of the Top 10 next week.
